Canadian Pro du Toit To Replace Numbers For Hockey Names In Yardage Book This Week
Canadian pro Jared du Toit is looking to change things up from the normal hum-drum yardage book data. Instead of writing down mere yardage numbers, he and his caddie Nolan Renwick will use hockey names and their corresponding numbers when preparing for the shot. I applaud them for trying to break up the monotony.
GolfDigest.com’s Christopher Powers has the deets.
Goal this week is to not use one number when trying to get the yardage. @N6Renwick has the cheat sheet. pic.twitter.com/zr8fiClTkf

Rather than telling du Toit he’s got 99 yards left to the pin, Renwick will just say “Gretzky.”
“So we have Carl Hagelin to the pin, greens are firm so let’s try and land it Jeff Skinner”

The best part, though, is that while it’s almost all current hockey players and a few legendary ones sprinkled in, there’s also some random names from other sports. Jackie Robinson for 42, Shaq for 34, Dirk Nowitzki for 41, Brian Urlacher for 54, etc. My favorites are the ones with nicknames: “Bald Kobe” for 24, the jersey Kobe wore when he no longer had hair, “Cheeseburger Phil” for 81, likely referring to Phil Kessel winning Big Macs for an entire arena.
Of course, the duo couldn’t help themselves when identifying 69-yards.
